Kazoekata practices Japanese counting: which counter fits a thing, how it sounds with a particular number, and what a reading you just heard means. Below are the answers to the questions an app like this gets most often.

Why does one counter show two numbers rather than one

Because those are two different skills. You can know perfectly well that books are counted with 冊 and still not manage 八冊. A single number would average the two and stop saying anything — whereas choosing the counter 95 %, reading it 61 % tells you straight away what to open.

I typed さんかい for floors and the app accepted it. Why?

Because it is correct. 三階 is said both さんがい and さんかい; dictionaries give the first as standard and record the second. The app teaches one, accepts both, and tells you after your answer which one it teaches.

Why does the app never ask about certain forms

Because for some counters the sources disagree — 羽 with three and six, say, or 足 with three. A four-button question in which two buttons carry correct Japanese teaches something false whichever one you pick. Forms like that sit in the counter's table, both side by side, together with the reason.

Why can't I type answers in the Latin alphabet

Because then “sanbon” would be a correct answer to 三本, and the exercise would be measuring your alphabet rather than your reading. Kana and characters are accepted.

Why aren't the levels JLPT levels

Because a counter does not divide along exam levels. 本 is in every beginner's textbook, and 六本 trips people up after two years of study — the difficulty comes from the sound, not from the word.

Levels 4 and 5 have no counters of their own. Is that a mistake?

No. The fourth gathers the forms from the lower levels that cannot be derived from a rule — ひとり, ついたち, よじ, はたち — and practices them together. The fifth mixes everything you have met. The difficulty of Japanese counting does not come from how many counters there are.

I changed phones. What about my progress?

Settings → Data has export and import of your progress. The file carries your studying and nothing else; the counters and the explanations are rebuilt from the app, so a backup will open even after the material has grown. The purchase is restored with Restore purchases, on any device signed in to the same Apple Account.

I found a mistake in a reading

This is the most important report of all and I am asking for it outright. A wrong reading is invisible to a learner — there is no way to notice you are saying it wrong. Settings → Support → Report a bug, or the address below.

The app sends no data of its own. A report arrives only when you write it yourself, and it contains only what you can see in the body of the message before you send it.
