Something in the Japanese looks wrong
Please tell me — this is the most useful kind of message I can get. Casual speech is exactly the material where a rule stated half a degree too strongly teaches an untruth, and it is the one thing a learner cannot spot on their own. Include the pattern and the sentence if you can.
"Nobody actually says that"
Also worth writing about, and not the same complaint as the one above. A form can be grammatically derivable and still be something no one says; the app has no right to teach it if so. Tell me which sentence, and where you have heard it said differently.
A question felt unfair
If one of the wrong options looked like it could also be correct, that is a bug in the content, not in your Japanese. The same material asked in the two directions has two different sets of acceptable mistakes — "nothing changed" is a sensible wrong answer when you are asked to shorten a form and a second correct answer when you are asked to recognize one. If one slipped through, I want to know.
It will not accept my typing
Where an answer is typed, it has to be written in Japanese — hiragana, katakana or kanji; romaji is not accepted, and this is deliberate. The difference between ちゃう and じゃう is a single mora — precisely what a Latin transcription does not settle. Add the keyboard in iOS Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard > Japanese.
A result in the “Sentences” tab looks wrong
The full form of a line and the rendering as spoken are written by a language model, and it can be wrong — in either direction. Write to me, and paste your line into the message along with the mode you used (“Full form” or “As spoken”): the server does not keep your line, so without it I have no way to reproduce what happened. The result does not count towards your progress, so a model's mistake does not spoil anything in your learning.
I cannot see the “Sentences” tab
The tab appears only on a device that can confirm the app is genuine through Apple's App Attest. On a device that does not support it the tab is absent, and the rest of the app works unchanged. AI help itself needs an internet connection.
Scanning a photo finds no text
Text in a photo is recognized on the phone, so a close, straight photo in good light helps. Recognition can be inaccurate — read the line before you send it; you can correct it in the field. You can always type it yourself, too.
Free requests and the subscription
Everyone gets a few free requests each month, with or without Premium. When they run out, the app shows when they come back. An empty answer — no contraction to expand, or no pattern that fits — does not use up a request. More requests come with the AI Help subscription, monthly or yearly. It renews automatically until you turn it off — in your Apple Account settings or with the Manage subscription button, at least a day before the paid period ends. The subscription does not unlock levels, and Premium does not include the subscription.
Why is there no audio?
Because the system speech synthesizer does not reproduce the reduction and the rhythm of casual speech — which is the one thing this app is about. A synthesized 食べちゃった would teach a pronunciation nobody uses. The content already marks which sentences a synthesizer could handle, and audio will arrive when it can be done honestly.
Why is there no review button or due date?
Also deliberate. Recognizing a shortened form is a reflex, not a fact with an expiry date: it is either strong or it is not, and a weak one does not ripen on its own. So Kuzushi tracks mastery instead of scheduling repetitions, and its row in the other apps never lights the orange "reviews due" marker. That is not a fault.
I lost my progress
Progress lives on the device. If you exported a backup earlier, Settings > Data > Import progress restores it — note that importing replaces everything currently on the device, because two histories of the same learning cannot be merged without counting answers twice. If you reinstalled without a backup, the progress is gone and I have no copy of it — there is no account, and the server the “Sentences” tab talks to knows nothing about your learning. The lists of lines in the “Sentences” tab are not part of the progress backup.
I bought something and the app does not see it
Use Restore purchases — it is in Settings, under Premium, and on the subscription screen. Purchases belong to your Apple Account, so they come back on any device signed in with that account. If that does not help, write to me with the date of purchase. Refunds are handled by Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com.
Will there be more levels?
Material added to the levels is covered by your existing Premium purchase. There is no second payment.
The other apps
The other apps in the family — Kaname (grammar) among them — are separate apps with separate purchases, by the same author; you will find them in Settings, under More Japanese Practice. Kaname teaches what 〜てしまう means; Kuzushi teaches you to hear it inside 食べちゃった. They are different skills and are learned separately.
